Overruled is a game about opinions. The court is not a real court, a verdict decides nothing outside the app, and the only thing on trial is an idea.
Using the app
You need an account, created with Sign in with Apple, and you must be at least 13 years old. You are responsible for what you file and how you vote.
What you may file
A hot take is an opinion about a thing, a habit, or an idea. That is the whole format. You are the plaintiff and your own take is the defendant.
You may not file anything that:
- names, describes, or targets an identifiable person — including a roommate, partner, coworker, ex, or neighbour;
- makes an allegation of wrongdoing, abuse, violence, or a crime;
- concerns a real legal, employment, housing, custody, financial, or medical dispute;
- contains sexual or intimate material;
- contains private information such as an address, phone number, email, or workplace;
- attacks a protected characteristic, impersonates somebody, or is part of a campaign against a person;
- is harassment dressed up as a joke.
These rules are checked automatically when you file and again on our servers, but automated checks are a first layer and not a guarantee. We may remove anything that breaks them, whether or not a check caught it.
Your content stays yours
You keep ownership of what you write. You give us permission to display it inside the app so the court can function: showing your case to jurors, showing the verdict, and showing a redacted record afterwards. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies kept in safety records.
Voting honestly
One account, one ballot per case. Do not create additional accounts to vote more than once, organise groups to swing a result, or use automated tools against the service. We may void ballots, remove verdicts, or suspend accounts that do.
What we may do
We may remove a case, void a verdict, restrict what an account can do, or suspend or delete an account that breaks these rules. Where it is reasonable we will say why. Serious or repeated breaches may not get a warning first.
Verdicts are entertainment
A verdict is the opinion of whoever happened to vote. It is not advice, not a finding of fact, and carries no weight anywhere. Nothing in the app should be relied on for any decision that matters.
Availability
Overruled is in testing and provided as-is. Features may change or disappear, cases may be lost, and the service may be unavailable. To the fullest extent the law allows, Northing is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app.
Ending it
You can delete your account at any time in Chambers → Court settings. We may end your access if you break these terms. Terms that should reasonably survive — ownership, liability, and conduct — continue to apply afterwards.
