Privacy Policy

We use your Apple account identifier, court name, filings, and ballots to operate the court. We do not store your email address or use advertising trackers. You can delete your court account from inside the app.
What we collect
Your account
Signing in uses Sign in with Apple. Apple gives us a stable identifier for you and this app, which is the only thing that makes your docket survive a reinstall or a new phone. We store that identifier and the court name you choose.
We do not store your email address. Apple may include one in the sign-in token, and we discard it — there is no email column in our database. Apple's Hide My Email works here, and using it costs you nothing.
We never receive or store your Apple password.

Your ballots are stored against a per-case seat rather than against your account. The mapping from seat to account exists — we need it to enforce one ballot per person — but it is never published, and your alias in one case tells nobody anything about your alias in another.
Notifications
If you allow verdict alerts, we store the notification token for that device and the device's UTC offset. The offset is used for one thing: not waking you between 10pm and 8am your local time. We never infer your location, and a token is removed on successful sign-out deregistration or account deletion. Turning alerts off in iOS Settings stops their display; it does not immediately delete a server token.
Safety and abuse prevention
Reporting a case stores the report, its reason, and a copy of the reported material so it can be reviewed. Content that our published rules block is recorded as a rule identifier — the blocked text itself is not retained.
To stop one person flooding the court, we keep short-lived counters. For signed-in actions these are keyed to your account. For sign-in itself, the key is a one-way hash of your network address — the address is never stored and the hash is used only for abuse prevention. Counters expire automatically.
Photos
Photo exhibits stay on your device. They are not uploaded to us, so no photo you attach leaves your phone.
What we never collect
- Your email address in our account database (an Apple sign-in token may contain one transiently)
- Your location
- Contacts, calendars, photos, or your address book
- Advertising identifiers — there is no IDFA and no ad network
- Third-party marketing analytics or cross-app behavioural tracking
We do not track you across apps or websites, and we never sell your data. Our service providers process it to operate the court. This site loads no third-party fonts, scripts, or trackers.
Who processes it
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, and delivery of notifications. Apple's own privacy policy governs what they do.
- Cloudflare — hosting and the database, as our processor. Processing locations depend on Cloudflare’s infrastructure and configuration.
No one else. There are no advertising, analytics, or attribution partners.
The hosting service processes network requests and operational logs to deliver and secure the app. These may include network addresses, request paths, error messages, and timing. Court participation counts are linked to your account to calculate standing; they are not advertising profiles.
How long we keep it
- Your account and cases: until you delete your account.
- Sign-in sessions: up to one year, then removed automatically.
- Rate-limit counters: hours to days, then removed automatically.
- Safety reports: retained for moderation while associated court records exist. Reports you submit and report copies of cases you own are removed when you delete your account.
Deleting your account
In the app: Chambers → Court settings → Delete account. This removes your account, the cases you filed, your ballots, your jury seats, your standing, and any notification tokens. Deletion cannot be undone. Apple authorization is separate: after deletion, follow the app’s instructions to stop using Sign in with Apple for Overruled in your Apple account settings.
Because cases are public while open, other people may have already seen or screenshotted a case you filed. We cannot retrieve what has left the app.

Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your data, or to object to how it is handled. Deletion is built into the app. For anything else, contact us at the address on the support page and we will respond.
Children
Overruled is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that materially affects you, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
